Long
Island Energy Plans
The Long
Island Power Authority (LIPA) released its energy plan for Long
Island in June of 2004. This plan covers the period from 2004
to 2013. In 2002 a coalition of regional environmental organizations
released a draft citizens' energy plan for the region.
Issues
of energy production and consumption are vital to the future of
Long Island and the nation. The decisions we make now will impact
our economy, environment and national security for years to come.
We are urging LIPA to make a greater commitment to alternative,
renewable environmentally friendly energy sources such as wind
and solar.
You
can see the plans online. The enviromentalists' plan is at www.seali.org,
and LIPA's plan is at www.lipower.org/projects/energyplan04.html.
